Mehrbano Qureshi, eight other PTI leaders set free in Feb 8 protest case

A court in Multan on Sunday acquitted nine PTI leaders, including Mehrbano Qureshi, daughter of party stalwart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who had been taken into custody on Saturday for violating section 144 and blocking roads by taking out a rally due to the lack of concrete evidence, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

As per the FIR registered at Makhdoom Rasheed police station of the city, Mehrbano and several other PTI leaders blocked the roads, and when the police prohibited them from doing so, they pelted them with stones.  

Later, in her audio message, Mehrbano said that the people, by coming out on streets in large numbers yesterday, had won her heart. “I had even said to the policemen that they could not understand the feelings of the masses. I am well and now after having been released, I am heading home,” she said, adding, “And I hope that all other PTI leaders and workers have also reached their homes.”

PTI leaders booked in Haroonabad

On the other hand, police in Haroonabad have registered an FIR against 24 known and 16 unidentified PTI leaders and workers, including the party stalwart Shaukat Basra, for violating section 144, blocking roads and inciting people against the government.  

Besides Basra, others nominated included Chaudhry Azam Ali and Kashif Shah.  

The case was registered at City Police Station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Allah Yar Asim.

PTI leaders booked at Taranda Muhammad Panah

Similarly, an FIR was registered against eight known and 25 unidentified PTI leaders and workers at Taranda Muhammad Panah near Muzaffargarh on the same charges of violating section 144, taking out a rally and blocking roads. 

Raja Muhammad Salim, Ikram Khan, Ghulam Dastgir, Siraj Ahmad, Jamshed, Shehzad, Arshad and Sohail were among those who were nominated in the case.  

The case was registered on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Jamil Malik.
