Three decades later, National Horse and Cattle show returns in grand style

After a gap of three decades, the National Horse and Cattle Show 2025 Sunday commenced with full splendor at Lahore’s Fortress Stadium.  

The grand opening was graced by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who arrived in a traditional horse-drawn carriage, reflecting Punjab’s rich cultural heritage.

As the event unfolded, a contingent of four horsemen approached the main stage, seeking formal permission to begin the show. 

Upon approval from the esteemed guests, the 14-day festival officially commenced. 

Adding a modern touch, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also performed a unique digital inauguration with a handprint, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and technology.

The stadium soon resonated with the rhythmic beats of dhols as cultural performances took center stage. 

The opening ceremony featured an international parade, with tent-pegging teams from Pakistan, Kuwait, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United States marching in formation. 

Additionally, archery teams from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and Tajikistan showcased their skills.

One of the festival’s highlights was the grand livestock parade, which began with colorfully adorned camels dancing to drum beats. 

Punjab’s prized livestock breeds, including Neeli Ravi and Sahiwal buffaloes, as well as Lohri and Mandri sheep, were put on display. 

The exhibition also featured Faisalabadi and Gujrati Beetal goats, alongside the rare Nachi breed.

The event captivated audiences with its dazzling cultural floats, vibrant traditional dances, and performances by hundreds of drummers. 

A dhol player managing six drums at once became the center of attention. The mystical "Dervish Dance" added a spiritual touch to the festivities, while Slovakia’s expert artists mesmerized spectators with a stunning laser light show. 

A band from Macedonia further enriched the musical experience.

Renowned choreographer Wahab Shah, accompanied by a massive troupe, set the stage ablaze with performances of traditional Punjabi songs. 

The excitement peaked when renowned singer Atif Aslam took the stage, drawing thousands of enthusiastic young fans to the front.

A patriotic spectacle unfolded as drones illuminated the sky with images of the national flag, Minar-e-Pakistan, and other national symbols. 

As the night progressed, torch-lit performances enhanced the festival’s magical ambiance.

Families turned out in large numbers, applauding the breathtaking performances and festivities. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally interacted with attendees, receiving a warm and enthusiastic welcome, as chants of appreciation echoed throughout the stadium.

The National Horse and Cattle Show 2025 successfully revived a long-lost tradition, celebrating Punjab’s heritage with grandeur, unity, and national pride.
