‘This is Pakistan I believe in’: Amna Ilyas marks Basant revival

Amna Ilyas marked the return of Basant with an Instagram post from Lahore, as the historic spring festival made a visible comeback in 2026 after years of restrictions.

Sharing a series of photos from the Basant event, Amna offered fans a glimpse into the atmosphere of Walled City, where rooftops were filled with kites, music and celebration.

The event, titled Phir Aai Basant, was attended by artists, cultural figures and members of the public from across the city.

Dressed in a striking hot pink traditional ensemble, Amna paired her look with bold silver ethnic jewellery, embracing the classic Basant colour palette.

Several images showed her flying kites, posing against colorful backdrops featuring the Badshahi Mosque, and enjoying the festivities alongside fellow celebrities.

One of the visuals from the post featured a high angle shot of the Walled City’s narrow streets, crowded with people, vendors and rooftop gatherings.

The décor included traditional charpais, hundreds of hanging kites, and playful truck art inspired elements, including a red silk pillow embroidered with a humorous Punjabi rhyme.

In her caption, Amna reflected on the cultural significance of the event: “Basant reminded me who we are. A country of colour, laughter, shared food, flying kites, and open hearts.”

She revealed that she attended the celebration at the invitation of the Punjab government, noting how the event brought together people from all walks of life and rekindled a sense of collective joy.

Amna Ilyas, who began her career as a fashion model before transitioning into acting, is known for critically acclaimed projects such as Zinda Bhaag, Baaji and Good Morning Karachi.
