Gynaecologist given acting charge of Jinnah Institute of Cardiology Dean

The Department of Specialised Health has handed over the charge of Dean of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology (JIC) to a gynaecologist, raising questions over administrative decisions in key cardiac institutions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to sources, the gynaecologist currently serving as Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College has been assigned the additional charge of Dean at the Heart Hospital, including the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology. The same official is also overseeing recruitments at JIC.

Despite the presence of a Board of Governors at the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, authorities have so far failed to appoint a permanent and suitable Dean. As a result, the institute is being run without a full-time head.

Sources said that even after increasing the upper age limit for the Dean’s appointment to 70 years, the Department of Specialised Health could not finalise a permanent appointment.

In a similar move, the department had earlier assigned the charge of Dean of the Sargodha Institute of Cardiology to a general surgeon, reflecting a pattern of interim arrangements in specialised cardiac institutions.

The situation has sparked concern among medical circles regarding governance and long-term planning in major healthcare facilities.
