Punjab to introduce body cameras, mobile restrictions in hospitals

The Punjab government has approved new measures to enhance security and service delivery in public hospitals, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday. 

The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Under the new plan, body cameras will be introduced for hospital security guards, ward boys, nurses, and pharmacy staff to monitor their performance and conduct.

Additionally, doctors and nurses will be prohibited from using mobile phones during duty hours to ensure better patient care.

The meeting also highlighted that over the past two years, more than 2,500 doctors have been appointed in Punjab’s public healthcare system.

Furthermore, 585,000 patients have been registered to receive heart medications at home, while 6,000 hepatitis and tuberculosis patients are currently receiving medicines at home.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed concern over medicine shortages, noting that the government has allocated Rs 8 billion for medicines.

She instructed officials to establish a foolproof mechanism to ensure an uninterrupted supply of medicines in hospitals.

The government also decided to establish a performance-based pay system for Medical Superintendents (MS) across Punjab.

Community Health Inspectors will be tasked with surveying hospitals, and a Data Analysis Center will be created to evaluate the effectiveness of public welfare initiatives in the health sector.
