Rawalpindi tops human development rankings in Punjab; southern districts lag behind

A recent official report on human development has revealed significant disparities across the province, highlighting the growing gap between prosperous and underdeveloped districts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the report, Rawalpindi ranks first in human development, followed by Jhelum in second place, Gujrat third, and Chakwal fourth. Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Attock secured the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively.

Surprisingly, Lahore, despite its urban infrastructure and amenities, ranked eighth in the province.

The report further showed that districts of southern Punjab continue to lag behind, with Lodhran, Rajanpur, and Muzaffargarh classified as areas with extremely low human development.

Officials attributed these disparities to imbalances in education, health, and income, along with shortcomings in provincial policies.

Human development rankings were determined based on combined scores of health, education, and per capita income indicators, underscoring persistent inequality across Punjab’s districts.
