Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had telephonic conversation on bilateral ties, regional situation and Afghan peace process, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Friday.
FM Qureshi said Pakistan is determined to boost bilateral and economic ties with the US and Islamabad wanted durable peace in Afghanistan
He stressed the need for holding a well-coordinated high-level discourse between the two states for durable peace and prosperity in the region.
He laid stress on concerted efforts by all the stakeholders to ensure sustainable peace and prosperity in Afghanistan. He said ‘power-sharing’ of different Afghan factions was the best option to avert a civil war.
Earlier, Qureshi said that resurgence of the Taliban will inflict serious damage upon Pakistan as he showed concerns over chances of a civil war after the US military forces pull out from Afghanistan.
US President Joe Biden announced in April that the drawdown of US troops would be beginning from May 1 and concluding by September 11 – the 20th anniversary of the war.
