Rana Tanveer chairs steering committee meeting on sugar import
In first phase a tender to be issued for 200,000 tons of sugar, in second tender 150,000 tons of sugar will be imported
Federal Minister for Production Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a meeting of the steering committee on sugar import, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday. During the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain said that a tender to be issued for 200,000 tons of sugar in the first phase, while a week later, there will be a second tender to import another 150,000 tons of sugar.
Federal Minister announced that sugar imports will be carried out through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP). He added that all taxes on imported sugar have been waived.
Rana Tanveer stated that the imported sugar will be of high quality with large granules. Post-shipment inspection has been made mandatory to ensure quality standards.
He emphasized that providing affordable and quality sugar to the public is the government's top priority. The entire sugar import process will be transparent and held to strict quality standards, the minister assured.
