Pakistan’s IT sector declared fastest-growing as exports soar to $2.83 billion

Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) sector has been officially declared the fastest-growing sector of the national economy, with exports surging by 23.7% to reach $2.825 billion in the fiscal year, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25.

The report highlights that March 2025 alone saw IT exports hit $342 million, marking a monthly increase of 12.1% — a clear indication of Pakistan’s accelerating digital economy. IT services also achieved the highest trade surplus of any sector at $2.4 billion, cementing its role as a key driver of foreign exchange earnings.

Freelancers made a notable contribution, bringing in $400 million in remittances, further boosting the sector's impact. Meanwhile, the startup ecosystem also gained momentum, with over 1,900 startups receiving training from National Incubation Centers.

The government’s focus on digital inclusion also showed results, with more than 12,000 women empowered through business and tech training programs. On the telecom front, the sector generated Rs 803 billion in revenue, with 199.9 million users nationwide and a teledensity of 81.3%.

The telecom industry contributed Rs 271 billion to the national exchequer, showcasing its significance as both a service provider and revenue generator.

Adding to the momentum, Pakistan and China have jointly established a Pak-China IT Working Group, which is collaborating on cybersecurity and digital development projects.

Pakistani software and IT services are witnessing growing demand in international markets, with the sector playing an increasingly critical role in boosting exports and shaping the country’s economic future.
