Pakistani delegation at Chatham House urges global accountability for India’s aggression

A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation touring various countries of the world Monday held a closed-door dialogue at Chatham House, London, with prominent British think tanks, academics, and policy experts.

The discussion was held under the Chatham House Rule to ensure a candid and respectful exchange of views on pressing regional and international issues.

Led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the delegation presented Pakistan's stance on escalating tensions in South Asia, with a strong emphasis on India’s recent actions.

According to sources, Bilawal condemned India's conduct, terming it a blatant violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and a breach of the United Nations Charter. The delegation expressed deep concern over India’s unprovoked aggression and underscored the destabilizing impact it poses to regional peace.

Particular condemnation was reserved for India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

The delegation described this move as a dangerous precedent and a gross violation of international norms.

The delegation criticized the use of water as a strategic weapon, calling on the global community to take notice and hold India accountable for such reckless policies.

The Pakistani representatives also lauded the role of the country’s armed forces for their effective and measured response to Indian provocations.

Highlighting the long-standing issue of Jammu and Kashmir, the delegation termed it the biggest impediment to lasting peace in South Asia.

They reiterated the call for meaningful dialogue and respect for human rights, urging the international community to push for a peaceful resolution based on justice and international law.

Senator Sherry Rehman, former Foreign Ministers Hina Rabbani Khar and Khurram Dastgir, Senator Faisal Subzwari, MNA Bushra Anjum Butt, former Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani, and veteran diplomat Tehmina Janjua were included in delegation. 

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Mohammad Faisal, was also present during the session.
