LB polls to be held in Punjab as scheduled, says CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja said on Wednesday that local bodies’ (LBs) elections were more important than general elections, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

During the hearing of a petition filed for holding LBs polls in Punjab, the CEC made it clear that there would be no delay in the holding of these polls in the province, and the first phase of these elections would be held on May 29, 2022. 

When he inquired from the secretary local government, Punjab as to when the provincial government would frame the rules of LBs ordinance, the latter replied that work on their formulation was in progress, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would be intimated once the Punjab cabinet gave their approval.
