Cate Blanchett shares her two cents on 'equal pay' issue in Hollywood

Cate Blanchett has made a candid statement about Hollywood, addressing the ongoing issue of equal pay.

The Australian actress, celebrated for her Oscar-winning performances in Blue Jasmine and The Aviator, reflected on the changes in the industry following the #MeToo movement. In an exclusive interview with The Observer, the 52-year-old opened up about her own experience of sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein and discussed the lasting impact of the movement.

She shared, “The conversation had just begun, and suddenly everything was being discredited and undermined, so we’re still fighting for the same basic discussions.”

When it comes to equal pay in Hollywood, Blanchett was blunt, saying, “We’re nowhere near equal pay!” She highlighted how, despite many important conversations, the industry has not made significant progress on this front.

She further emphasized, “Talking about it loudly doesn’t mean action has been taken. There’s a greater concentration of wealth than perhaps ever before in human history, and we can see where that’s led us.”

On the professional front, Blanchett is currently starring in The Seagull at The Barbican.
