‘Harry Potter’ reboot: Oscar nominee Janet McTeer in talks for Professor McGonagall

The upcoming HBO reboot of Harry Potter is reportedly considering Oscar-nominated actress Janet McTeer to take on the iconic role of Professor Minerva McGonagall, originally played by Maggie Smith in the film franchise.

According to a report by Deadline, McTeer is “in talks” for the role, though HBO has yet to make an official confirmation. The Emmy and Oscar-nominated actress is known for her performances in Tumbleweeds and Ozark.

Additionally, the report suggests that Paapa Essiedu is being considered for the role of Severus Snape, a character made legendary by Alan Rickman.

However, HBO has not confirmed any of these casting decisions. The network previously addressed the speculation in a statement, saying, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

So far, the only officially confirmed cast member for the reboot is John Lithgow, who will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore.

The Harry Potter reboot, which aims to be a decade-long series, is expected to stay faithful to J.K. Rowling’s books, offering a fresh take on the beloved story.
