Pakistan, UK discuss cooperation in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday hosted Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, during her visit to the National Emergencies Operation Centre at NDMA Headquarters, where discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

During the visit, the High Commissioner met NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who provided a detailed briefing on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and awareness system. Officials also highlighted the technical and operational capabilities of the National Emergencies Operation Centre.

The delegation was informed about NDMA’s digital portals designed for disaster management and early risk assessment, along with technology-driven initiatives aimed at improving early warning mechanisms. A comprehensive overview of the authority’s mobile application and other digital tools was also presented.

The NDMA chairman briefed the visiting delegation on the organisation’s role in disaster management and risk mitigation at the national level. The briefing also covered potential threats that Pakistan and other countries may face during 2026.

The British High Commissioner reviewed NDMA’s ongoing efforts in disaster preparedness and mitigation, appreciating the authority’s modern and integrated system designed to strengthen emergency response and risk management.

Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration between Pakistan and the United Kingdom to improve disaster resilience and address emerging climate-related challenges.
