Iranian FM Araqchi briefs Ishaq Dar on talks with Indian officials

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi in a telephone conversation on Thursday night discussed bilateral ties and regional developments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The two foreign ministers discussed the latest security developments in the South Asian region following the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Referring to his talks with Indian officials, Araqchi emphasized the importance of both sides' efforts to prevent the situation from escalating and reduce tensions.

Ishaq Dar while explaining the latest situation in the region explained the country's positions in this regard and clarified that the country is not seeking to escalate tensions.

During his stay in India, Abbas Araqchi and Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar signed two memoranda of understanding at the end of the 20th Iran-India Joint Commission Meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday.

The agreements included a memorandum of understanding on customs cooperation and another on regulations related to pharmaceutical products. They also signed the minutes of the joint commission meeting.

Araqchi said that Iran and India have always enjoyed friendly and warm relations founded on mutual respect and common interests, emphasizing that the two sides maintain close ties at present.

Araqchi referred to economic relations between Iran and India, saying that while the two nations have good economic cooperation, the level of economic exchanges is below expectations.

He said that sanctions pose significant hurdles to expanding economic collaboration and expressed hope for addressing these issues in the future.
