NEPRA slashes electricity prices: Rs3.64/unit cut for Karachi, minor relief for rest of Pakistan

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity prices across the country under its regular monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) mechanism, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.

According to the notifications issued by the power regulator: Karachi consumers under K-Electric (KE) will see a major relief of Rs3.6396 per unit in their electricity bills for May 2025, based on the FCA for February 2025. Meanwhile, for consumers in the rest of the country, a marginal reduction of 29 paisa per unit has been allowed in the FCA for March 2025.

The notification for KE clarified that the negative adjustment of Rs3.6396/kWh is provisional and subject to changes based on the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) determination for FY 2024–30.

However, the relief will reflect in May 2025 bills, bringing noticeable reduction in monthly costs for most KE consumers—except lifeline users, protected domestic consumers, EV charging stations, and prepaid categories, who are excluded from the adjustment.

NEPRA emphasised that if electricity bills for May had already been issued prior to this decision, the reduction would be applied in the subsequent month. KE has also been directed to separately mention the FCA adjustment in consumer bills and comply with all relevant court orders.
