Pakistan, Bangladesh agree to form secy-level joint working group
Mohsin Naqvi offers full cooperation on Safe City Project
Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to establish a secretary-level joint working group between their interior ministries, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The agreement reached during talks in Dhaka between Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh's Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
Both the ministers also had a lengthy discussion on enhancing mutual cooperation regarding organized crimes, financial fraud and cyber crimes.
There was also a dialogue on on cooperation in training programmes for officers in police academies.
During the meeting, a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to strengthen cooperation in preventing drug smuggling, illegal use, and the spread of narcotics.
Under the agreement, both countries will collaborate to disrupt trafficking networks, exchange timely intelligence, and implement joint strategies to curb the societal impact of drugs.
The MoU also included sharing best practices, training personnel, and using modern technology for drug prevention.
Pakistan also offered full cooperation in the Safe City Project, with Bangladesh expressing gratitude.
Both ministers also discussed expanding bilateral relations, internal security, training for civil armed forces, counter-terrorism, human trafficking prevention, cybercrime, organized crime, financial fraud, and joint police training programmes.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to visit Pakistan to further strengthen collaboration.
The Bangladeshi Interior Minister thanked Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for offering cooperation on the Safe City Project.
Foreign Secretary of the Bangladesh Government Asad Alam Saem, Cabinet Secretary Naseem Ghani, Interior Secretary Manzoor Chaudhry and Pakistan's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider were also present on this occasion.
