South Air makes inaugural arrival of first aircraft in Pakistan

Pakistan’s aviation sector is set to expand further as a new private airline beginning commercial operations aimed at improving regional connectivity across underserved parts of the country. 

In this regard, ATR 72-500, the first plane of South Air makes landing in Pakistan which is a significant milestone for developing Pakistan’s Aviation Landscape and roadmap to enhance regional connectivity. The Airline is expected to start operations in June 2026, which would mark a new chapter in Pakistan Aviation’s regional market. This will help in strengthening economic activity in the regional areas with creation of aviation jobs and improved commercial linkage

South Air plans to launch flight operations in June using ATR 72 aircraft, with reports indicating that one of its aircraft on a delivery flight to Pakistan recently arrived in Egypt from Italy. 

According to reports, the carrier plans to begin regular operations during the first week of June. South Air describes itself as a next generation domestic airline focused on affordable and accessible regional air travel. The company says it aims to connect smaller cities with Pakistan’s major economic hubs while improving travel options for communities with limited air connectivity. South Air plans to operate flights to destinations including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Gilgit, Chitral, and Skardu.
