Anti-Terrorism Court Lahore has handed down ten years prison sentence to PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Ch, MIan Mehmood-ur-Rasheed and Umar Sarfraz Cheema in the case of burning of the Supreme Court judge's car at Rahat Bakery Chowk on May 9, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Anti-Terrorism Court Admin Judge Manzar Ali Gul held a hearing in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore. ATC judge gives five years in prison sentences to Khadija Shah. However, the court acquits former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Rubina Jamil and Afshan Tariq in the case.
The court has acquitted 21 accused while 18 accused have been tried. The court has declared 12 accused, including Sanam Javed, as absconders.
Earlier, Anti-Terrorism Court Lahore has reserved judgment in the case of burning of the Supreme Court judge's car at Rahat Bakery Chowk on May 9. ATC Admin Judge Manzar Ali Gul held a hearing in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore. Moreover, the verdict will be announced by the court same day.
Earlier, the court completed the trial of case number 109/23 of Sarwar Road Police Station. The final arguments of the lawyers of Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Ijaz Chaudhry have been completed. The arguments of the lawyers of Khadija Shah and Dr. Yasmin Rashid have been completed.
The lawyers for Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other accused complete their arguments. 47 witnesses recorded their testimonies in the case. The lawyers for the accused complete their cross-examination of the witnesses on their statements.
An angry mob set fire to the vehicle of a Supreme Court judge's squad at Rahat Bakery Chowk on May 9. Squad in-charge Dilawar saved lives by donning the uniform of a PSO petrol pump employee. 51 accused including Khadija Shah, Rubina Jamil, Sanam Javed, Afshan Tariq and Rohina Ilyas have been named in the case. Rohina Ilyas is the wife of fugitive PTI leader Zubair Khan Niazi.
Six accused in the case have been declared in absentia during the trial. Detained leaders Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmood Rashid are the named accused. The case includes provisions of sedition and inciting workers to riot.
