Several injured as garments factory collapses after massive fire in Karachi

A number of people including a TV cameraman were injured when a three-storey garments factory collapsed after it was engulfed by a massive fire blaze in Sector 8-A of New Karachi Industrial Area on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The blaze now has spread to another factory and the police acting swiftly shut down all other factories located in the area in order to avoid further damage.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the fire erupted inside the garment manufacturing unit, prompting an immediate evacuation of the workers.

While firefighters were attempting to bring the douse the flames, the fragile structure collapsed, causing injuries to several people including a cameraman of a private TV channel. The building collapsed with a big bang, triggering panic and a stampede in the surrounding area.

Emergency responders confirmed that the intensity of the fire had severely compromised the building’s foundations, leading to its sudden collapse. Two vehicles parked within the factory compound were also severely damaged in the blaze.

According to fire brigade officials, 15 fire brigade vehicles and their staff took part in the operation to extinguish the fire.

After receiving information, SSU commands also rushed to the site and helped the Rescue personnel in relief operation.
