Sindh minister to appear before judicial commission in Mir Raza death case tomorrow

The judicial commission, formed to probe the murder of Karachi youth Mir Raza, has changed the timings of the appearance of Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Lanjar, who had been on Tuesday directed to appear before the commission at 9:00 AM on Thursday (September 10) was on Wednesday asked to appear at 11:00 AM on the same day.

On Tuesday, the commission’s proceedings had to be suspended because of the interference of the advocate general, Sindh.

Justice Umar Sial, the commission head, suspended the proceedings and summoned the Sindh home minister. 

Mir Raza’s father and sister appeared before the commission, while Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya also attended the proceedings and responded to questions from the commission.

During the hearing, Advocate Jibran Nasir told the commission that samples taken from Mir Raza’s body had reached the laboratory after a delay.

Dr Summaiya said that delays are generally avoided in high-profile cases.

A week ago, the Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected a petition seeking the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the murder of Mir Raza, directing the investigating officer to complete the probe in a fair, impartial and expeditious manner.

The court issued its detailed written order after announcing its reserved decision on the petition filed by Mir Raza’s family, who had expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing police investigation.

The court noted that the Supreme Court order cited by the petitioners was different in nature and did not apply to the present case.

The petitioners had argued for the formation of a JIT, saying the police investigation was not satisfactory.

The court, however, said the investigating officer had assured it that all possible efforts would be made to complete the probe.

On the same day, the Judicial Commission formed to probe the murder Mir Raza called his two business partners, two friends, an online car driver and two police officials tomorrow for questioning. Summons were issued to business partners Muhammad Ahmad and Abdullah, Abdur Razzaq and Haseem (friends), an online car driver, Ihsan, and SDPO Sharae Faisal and SHO Ferozeabad.   

On Monday, 24News TV channel reported that the final medical and forensic report following the exhumation of Mir Raza's body had concluded that the available evidence regarding his death is inconsistent with the claim of suicide.

According to the opinion of the exhumation board, a bullet entered Mir Raza's body from the back and exited through his chest. 

The bullet fractured his sixth rib, damaged a lung and ruptured his heart, resulting in severe internal injuries.

The final medical findings concluded that Mir Raza died as a result of the gunshot wound and the subsequent rupture of his heart.

The forensic examination also found bullet holes on both the back and front portions of his shirt.

According to the report, a higher quantity of gunshot residue was detected around the hole on the back of the shirt.

Gunshot residue was also detected in samples collected from both hands and the wounds, the forensic report said.

Meanwhile, blood analysis revealed the presence of a small quantity of an anesthetic substance.

However, no identifiable traces of other intoxicating or poisonous substances were found.

The final medical and forensic findings have reinforced the exhumation board's conclusion that the evidence surrounding Mir Raza's death does not support the suicide narrative.

On the other hand, in an important development in Mir Raza death case, the forensic report of a 30-bore shell recovered from the crime scene was released on Wednesday.  

According to the report, the shell did not match with the ones provided to the police. 

According to the report, the shell was matched with two test shells; however, the marks turned out to be different. 

The forensic science laboratory had received the shell on August 7, 2026.
