The police on Sunday cautioned JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to restrict his movement and keep his travel details confidential.

In a written advisory sent to the JUI-F chief, the DI Khan Police informed him of “potential threats” to his life from terrorists.

“There is credible intelligence about plans of attack on you (Fazl) and currently you are at the hit list of the terrorists. They (terrorists) want to create law and order situation by disturbing religious and sectarian harmony.”

The police advised the JUI-F chief to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during night time. The police also requested him to arrange private guards for security at home and install CCTV cameras there.

The advisory reads that Fazl should keep licenced weapons with him for security and ensure that gate of his house remains closed from the inside.

It is to be recalled that the JUI-F chief has survived three suicide attacks in the past.

Strong reaction

Reacting to the security advisory, a spokesperson for Maulana Fazlur Rehman termed it a testimony to the government’s negligence and failure to protect its citizens.

“This has exposed the undemocratic face of the Tabdili Sarkar. However, this advisory will fail to dent the resolve of the JUI-F, like many others issued in the past.”

He claimed that security of the JUI-F had been withdrawn by the government one year ago.

"Government behaviour towards opposition leaders reflects it 'panic'. But the rulers should mind that they will fail to weaken the JUI-F movement against a 'selected government',” the spokesman added.
