The district administration has allowed the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf to take out its rally today from Lahore’s Liberty Chowk to Nasir Bagh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider has formally issued a No Objection Certificate to the PTI for its rally with certain conditions. 

The district administration granted permission for the rally after securing an undertaking from the PTI. 

According to the undertaking, the PTI would start its rally at 1pm today and end it at 6pm. The party could not establish any reception camps. The organizers will be responsible for the security of the rally routes. 

Moreover, the speakers will not be allowed to make speeches against judiciary and state institutions. 

According to the permission letter, the PTI focal person and other responsible persons are required to cooperate with the concerned security officials and the district administration in order to maintain law and order. 

The PTI rally organizers are also required to cooperate with traffic police and the district officials so that there will be no traffic snarls. 

Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) directed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) to call off its 1st May rally as the party did not have any kind of permission from the district administration in this regard.

The ECP issued a show-cause notice on Sunday to the PTI over violating the election code of conduct, saying it was necessary to seek the permission of the district administration to hold rallies.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has announced to lead a rally on Monday from Liberty Chowk to Nasir Bagh at 1 PM in connection with Labour Day.

Reacting to the election watchdog’s show-cause notice, PTI senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry demanded the ECP to revoke its notice by saying, “The notice is illegal”. He said that PTI would take out a rally to express solidarity with the working class.  

Section 144 imposed in Islamabad 

On the other hand, the Islamabad administration has imposed Section 144 in the city. 

According to the spokesperson for Islamabad police, no one is allowed to hold a rally, procession, or gathering in the territorial limits of the federal capital. 

An indiscriminate legal action will be taken against those who will violate the law, police warned. 

However, the citizens will be allowed to enter the federal capital after their checking at Faizabad and other entry points, the spokesperson added. 

He asked people to call Police Helpline Pukar on 15 in case of emergency. 

Sources said that police have called 1,000 FC officials, 12 prisoner vans and three ambulances.
