Shalimar Express derailment suspends Lahore-Faisalabad traffic

A Lahore-bound Shalimar Express was derailed at Farooqabad near Sheikhupura on Friday morning, after which railway traffic on Lahore-Faisalabad Section was suspended, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to details, a central bogie of the Shalimar Express was derailed while changing tracks at Farooqabad Railway Station.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the train kept travelling at 100 kilometers per hour over a distance of six kilometers after the derailment.

After this railway track at six kilometers was affected. There were 12 railway bogies attached to the train standing on the track.

Later, the driver left for Lahore with only six bogies. After receiving the report, rescue teams from Lahore rushed to the spot.

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura Shahid Imran Marath, Assistant Commissioner Imran Ali Haral was present at the site.

Earlier on April 8, 2026, a potential disaster was narrowly avoided when the Shalimar Express, travelling from Karachi to Lahore, met with an accident near Nawabshah, where three of its coaches derailed.

According to railway officials, the affected bogies included a VIP kitchen lounge, an AC business class coach, and an AC standard coach. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Railway authorities said emergency teams were dispatched to the site immediately, and efforts were underway to restore the derailed coaches and resume normal train operations. 

Initial assessments suggest that technical issues or track conditions may have contributed to the derailment, though a formal investigation is expected to determine the exact cause.
