Some WhatsApp users on Android devices were surprised when they were logged out of their account for no reason at all the other day.

In fact, there were some who actually got a message that said, "Your phone number is no longer registered with WhatsApp on this phone. This might be because you registered it on another phone. If you didn't do this, verify your phone number to log back into your account."

Considering that there are so many reports indicating how malware and fraudsters are stealing identities of people or otherwise launching attacks on WhatsApp users, this would no doubt have been quite disconcerting. Things switching off by themselves are certainly something to worry about, especially as every WhatsApp user is probably juggling so many conversations at the same time that any disruption is unwelcome.

Then there is the problem of many sensitive photos and videos even passwords and usernames being saved on the chat. One of the biggest fears of users is about these being stolen. Another worry is identity theft. It all becomes one big fearful problem for users.

However, in this particular case, everything ended on a good note.

On Twitter, WABetaInfo announced that it was just a bug and no one really needs to worry about the security of their devices being compromised. It tweeted, "If you have been recently logged out from WhatsApp, on WhatsApp for Android, don't worry: it's a bug. You can log into WhatsApp again." It had added a photo of the message from WhatsApp too.

While this incident was a benign one, WhatsApp users should know that scammers are constantly launching phishing attacks in order to steal their money or online identities. In its latest warning, Kaspersky has revealed that these attacks on WhatsApp users have increased manifold.

Kaspersky revealed that the best way for WhatsApp users to stay safe is not to click on any link sent by strangers as these can lead to fake websites, which may cause loss of money to users.

Also, they must not carry on any conversation with anyone who may be promising to give big rewards for no reason at all.
