Rising River Indus at Taunsa forces people from their homes

People living in the surroundings of the River Indus at Taunsa have been shifted to safe places following a medium flood in the river at Taunsa, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesman Irfan Ali Kathia, in order to prevent erosion at Kot Addu, the embankments surrounding the river at the site have been strengthened. “The PDMA and the local administration are fully prepared to deal with any emergency,” he has said, adding, “Already we have sent over 100 tents to the area.”
Water level rising in River Indus at Guddu Barrage
There are reports of medium flood in the river at Guddu Barrage and the water level is still rising due to which water has entered the adjoining katcha areas, inundating homes and fields.
As per the statistics given by the Control Room, the inflow of water at the site has been recorded at 43,000 cusecs while the outflow at 384,000 cusecs.
The water level in the river at Guddu rose by 40,000 cusecs during the last 24 hours.
Twin cities, Narowal, Daska receive rain
Heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Narowal and Daska early Saturday morning.
Met Office predicts more downpours
On the other hand, the Met Office forecast more monsoon rains, accompanied by strong winds, for different parts of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), north-eastern and southern Punjab, Potohar belt of Punjab and southern Sindh.
It said that heavy thundershowers were also expected at a few places in Kashmir, north-eastern Punjab, and areas of the province bordering Balochistan namely Dera Ghazi Khan.
Giving further details, the Met Office said that Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan.
Similarly, it predicted showers for different parts of KP namely Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Malakand, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Dera Ismael Khan, Waziristan and Orakzai.
Hot and humid weather was forecast for most parts of Sindh, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan barring southern Sindh.
