Pakistan Parliament marks 78 years of legislative legacy

Pakistan’s Parliament has completed 78 years since its establishment, with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq paying rich tribute to the members of the country’s first legislature, 24News HD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, describing the formation of the Constituent Assembly as a reflection of Pakistan’s founding leaders’ democratic vision, the speaker said that the plant nurtured by the founders has now grown into a strong and flourishing tree.

He emphasised that parliamentary supremacy and the rule of the Constitution are essential for the country’s progress and prosperity.

Sadiq recalled that the first session of the Constituent Assembly was a practical manifestation of the people’s aspirations, and today, the Parliament serves as the representative body of Pakistan’s 250 million citizens.

He stressed that timely and effective legislation is vital to addressing national challenges and that transparency and reforms are being implemented to enhance the House’s performance.

The Speaker underscored the need for political unity to strengthen democracy and Parliament, noting that collective decision-making in the House provides sustainable solutions to public, political, and economic issues.

He also pointed out that internship programmes are being run to familiarise youth with the parliamentary system, and modern technology is being introduced for timely information delivery to the public.

Highlighting Pakistan’s pioneering achievement, Sadiq reminded that since 2015, Pakistan’s Parliament has been the world’s first legislature operating entirely on solar energy.

He concluded by affirming that without the continuity of the parliamentary system and the supremacy of constitutional institutions, development is not possible and that the current Parliament continues to serve the public in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
