Faran Tahir clears air on Saba Hameed’s viral ‘husband-to-son’ casting switch

Pakistani drama viewers are highly confused after seeing actors Saba Hameed and Faran Tahir switch relationships on screen. Fans noticed the duo portraying a married couple on Mondays and Tuesdays, but playing mother and son later in the week. While the sudden flip sparked massive social media memes and public debates, Faran Tahir has stepped forward to clear up the confusion.

In a latest interview, Faran Tahir explained the production truth to the audience. He clarified that the dramas were absolutely not shot during the same time period:

"Because you are watching both dramas together, it feels like we shoot one project for two days and the other for the next two days," Faran Tahir said. "But that is not the case. One of these dramas was filmed a very long time ago, and the other was shot much later."

He further added that the production timelines were entirely independent, but due to scheduling issues or channel constraints, the network had to air both dramas simultaneously, creating an unintentional contrast.

The ongoing controversy started because the same TV channel is running two major drama serials simultaneously, ‘Bas Tera Saath Ho’, where Saba Hameed and Faran Tahir play husband and wife. On the other hand ‘Dar-e-Nijaat’, where they act as mother and son.

The sudden relationship flip has continued to divide audiences and industry Artists.

Veteran actress Atiqa Odho previously expressed reservations about Saba Hameed portraying Faran Tahir’s mother while the two were simultaneously being seen as husband and wife in another drama.

“I don't understand how Saba Hameed can play Faran Tahir's mother. Of course, as actors, we can do any role we want. But right now, in a parallel drama running at the same time, they are playing husband and wife, and suddenly this switch happens... so it wasn't digestible for me,” Atiqa remarked.

Meanwhile, Juggan Kazim defended Saba Hameed’s versatility, arguing that the actress possesses the rare ability to completely disappear into her characters.

“She has the rare ability to make you completely forget the actor and believe the character every single time. This is not a casting flaw; it showcases her incredible acting versatility. We are extremely lucky to have artists like her in our television industry who can effortlessly switch between such diverse characters,” Juggan said.
