Azam Gopang, who was serving as an SHO at Karachi’s Orangi area, has been dismissed from service in the wake of the killing of a teenager in a ‘fake’ police encounter a few days ago, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

Quoting sources in the police, the channel reported that DIG Karachi West gave the orders of Gopang’s dismissal.

On the other hand, the former SHO has secured pre-arrest bail from a court in Sukkur following the registration of an FIR against him.

The sources further said that police had repeatedly tried to contact Gopang on his all cellphone numbers, but all those numbers were switched off, prompting the high-ups to order his termination from service.

Three days back, on December 7, 24News had reported that one another police encounter in Karachi had turned out to be ‘fake’.

Giving details, the channel said that SHO Azam Gopang of Orangi-5 area had been suspended while Tauheed, his colleague, who was involved in the killing of a 14-year-old boy Arsalan Mehsud, allegedly in an encounter, had been arrested along with his private partner.

Later it had come to light that Mehsud was the son of an office-bearer of Dumper Association Haji Liaquat.

Police also recovered licensed weapons from Tauheed and his accomplice, who were both mounted on a bike in plainclothes when they opened fire at Arsalan.

The deceased boy’s father told media that his son was an intermediate student and was returning home after attending his tuition classes.

DIG West Nasir Aftab said that the incident did not take place at any police check-post. “The inquiry committee will soon submit its findings,” he had added.
