Two sent to jail for impersonating MDCAT candidates in Karachi

Police have arrested two individuals for attempting to impersonate candidates during the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) at NED University Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday. 

 The suspects were caught while attempting to take the exam on behalf of the original candidates, Shah Zaman and Qamar Din. 

Qaiser Ali and Abdul Majeed were caught appearing in the retake of the MDCAT at the NED University exam center in place of the original candidates. 

The police produced both suspects before Judicial Magistrate (East) Imran Ameer Ali Thari and requested their physical remand in police custody for interrogation.

The investigation officer said the suspects were required to be interrogated about the absconding persons for whom they allegedly came to take the exam. However, the magistrate sent both of them to jail on judicial remand.

An FIR was lodged at the Mobina Town police station under sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the NED University exam center in charge Prof Sarjeel Afridi.

According to the FIR, Ali and Majeed were caught sitting the test for Shah Zaman and Qamar Din, respectively.

The MDCAT retake exam was successfully conducted across Sindh on Monday, following the orders of the Sindh High Court. 

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) University Sukkur was responsible for conducting the exam in the province.

 A total of 38,684 candidates participated in the retake, which was held in six cities: Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, and Sukkur. Security and logistical support for the exam were provided by provincial and district authorities, along with agencies like the FIA and Intelligence Bureau (IB).
