Heavy fines proposed as Motor Vehicle Ordinance Amend Bill lands in PA

The Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025 Amendment Bill containing proposals of heavy fines was presented in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

According to the Motor Vehicle Bill, 6-month imprisonment or a fine of Rs50,000 will be imposed for having tinted glasses and 6-month imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs50,000 may be imposed for underage drivers. 

Moreover, 6-month imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs50,000 may be imposed for violating one-way traffic and 6-month imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs50,000 may be imposed for driving without a fitness certificate. 

Seat belts have been made mandatory for drivers and passengers. 

Speeding will attract a fine of up to Rs2,000 for motorcycles, Rs3,000 for three-wheelers, and Rs5,000 for cars while the fine for speeding on luxury and transport vehicles will be Rs20,000. 

Overloading will attract a fine of Rs3,000 for three-wheelers, Rs5,000 for ordinary vehicles, and Rs10,000 for luxury vehicles while Rs2,000 for motorcycles, Rs5,000 for ordinary vehicles, and Rs15,000 for transport vehicles for jumping the signal. 

Riding vehicles with faulty lights, heavy fines have been proposed while Rs2,000 fine for riding a motorcycle without a helmet has been proposed.

The ordinance has been referred to the relevant standing committee and the committee will submit a report in two months.

After the committee's approval, it will be approved by the House.
