Pakistan Army soars past 100 gold medals in 35th National Games in Karachi
The Pakistan Army continued its dominant run at the 35th National Games, crossing the 100-gold milestone and firmly maintaining its lead as competitions entered the fourth day in Karachi on Wednesday.
By the end of the day’s events, the Army secured 113 gold medals, along with 50 silver and 34 bronze medals, keeping them at the top of the medals table.
The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) followed in second place with 46 gold medals, while the Pakistan Navy held third position with 24 gold medals.
The day clearly belonged to the Army, whose athletes excelled across multiple disciplines—swimming, rowing, football, karate, and several other competitions.
In swimming, Army’s Ahmed Durrani delivered a standout performance, completing a double hat-trick of gold medals.
He claimed victories in the 800m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 200m relay, bringing his individual tally for the department to six golds.
Army athletes also clinched top honours in women’s football and women’s softball, remaining unbeaten throughout the single-league football format.
The 35th National Games, taking place in Karachi from 6 to 13 December 2025, feature a wide range of contests spanning endurance sports, combat events, precision disciplines, and popular team competitions.
The multi-sport event boasts Olympic staples such as athletics, swimming, gymnastics, and fencing, along with local favourites like kabaddi, tug of war, netball, and boxing.
First held in 1948, the National Games are one of Pakistan’s most prestigious sporting events and often act as a crucial stepping stone for athletes aiming for international representation.
