Karachi shopkeeper fakes robbery to buy time to repay loan

A shopkeeper in Karachi has confessed to have faked a robbery of Rs4 million so that he could buy time to repay the loan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

DSP Preedy police station Liaquat Hayat has said that an investigation into the incident has showed that no robbery was committed.

According to details, Mehroz Ali had lodged a complaint at Preedy police station that an armed man stormed his shop and looted goods worth Rs4 million from there.

As soon as they received information, DSP Preedy and his team reached the spot and started an investigation.

Since there was no CCTV camera installed in the shop, police had to rely on the CCTV footage obtained from nearby cameras.

A team of the Crime Scene Unit was also called in to help in the investigation.

However, due to conflicting statements made by the shopkeeper and the lack of evidence, it appeared to the police that the story had been invented.

Later, the shopkeeper admitted that he faked the robbery.

Police have recorded the statement of Mehroze and started legal action.
