Pregnant woman killed after brutal assault in Ubauro

A 40-year-old pregnant woman has died after allegedly being subjected to severe torture by her relatives in the Ubauro area of Sindh, in a case authorities believe is linked to an “honour”-related dispute.

According to a report aired by the 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday, the incident occurred three days earlier in the woman’s native village near Ubauro. The victim was later identified as Majeedan Bibi Dhondo.

Her husband told reporters that a clash erupted within the family over issues described as related to honour, during which his wife was brutally assaulted by relatives. He said the woman sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to them.

Police shifted the woman’s body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination shortly after her death. However, no first information report (FIR) had been registered against the accused by the time this report was filed, raising concerns over delays in legal action.

The case adds to a long list of alleged honour-based violence incidents in Sindh, where rights groups have repeatedly criticised weak enforcement of laws and slow police response in cases involving family members as suspects.
