The ruling coalition party—Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has opposed the taxes on laptops, computers, dairy products, bread and alternate energy in the proposed Mini Budget.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the MQM has expressed strong reservations about the money bill and announced not to vote in favour of it.

The MQM Senator Faisal Sabzwari Monday opposed the imposition of taxes on essential commodities, laptop computers, dairy, bread, and alternative energy.

He also opposed raising the sales tax on the food items through this supplementary budget. He said in a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that taxes on essential commodities and food items should not be increased.

Sabzwari said he has already given a written dissenting note on the recommendations of the committee on taxation of agricultural income. He said they will ensure that their MNAs do not vote on the imposition of taxes on these items.
