Calling the Murree tragedy the result of ‘the height of incompetence’ of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif said categorically on Monday that the negligence shown by the government, in this case, was ‘simply unforgivable', reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking during the National Assembly session, he said how unfortunate it was that thousands of cars remained stuck at the hill station for as many as 20 hours, but the Punjab government did not budge even by an inch. “The result was that innocent children, young and old shivered to death inside their vehicles while begging the authorities to save their lives,” he regretted.
“What steps the government took to prevent the tragedy from happening when the Met Office had forecast heavy snow for Murree and other mountainous areas of the country,” he said, and asked the government to pack up and go home since, what he called, it was ‘good for nothing. “And if you don’t leave, the people will grab you and throw you out of the corridors of power,” Shehbaz warned.
Leader of the Opposition further said the present government knew nothing but to call its political opponents names. “The opposition, on the other hand, faced all ‘persecution’ by the government manfully,” he added.
He was of the view that the formation of a committee of government servants to probe the Murree tragedy was a ‘joke’.
On the other hand, quoting its sources, 24News has reported that the opposition parties have decided to protest against inflation outside the parliament day after tomorrow (Wednesday, January 12, 2022).
The parties have also asked their workers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to attend the protest demonstration. Reporter: Owais Kiani
