The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted permanent bail to Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister Aijaz Jakhrani, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Aijaz Jakhrani had filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court in a Rs311 million reference of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
A three-member bench headed by the chief justice conducted the hearing.
The NAB did not oppose the pre-arrest bail plea of Aijaz Jakhrani. “According to the NAB law, the reference is less than Rs5 million,” the NAB additional prosecutor told the court.
The Supreme Court remarked the petitioner had assured that he would be a 100 per cent part of the trial.
The Supreme Court expressed hope that the court concerned would speed up the trial process. “It is hoped that decision on the reference will come in two months,” it added.
“This reference was made on the orders of the Supreme Court,” the woman witness told the court.
“Has your statement been recorded in the trial court?” Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial asked from her.
“My statement has been recorded, but threats are being hurled at me,” she replied.
“If you have any concerns, contact the police. If you have any other problem, file a petition with the Supreme Court,” the chief justice told her.
“It is the rule of the law that a person will be considered innocent until he is proven guilty,” he added.
