Motorway M-5 closed up to Zahir Peer due to dense fog
The Motorway Police have temporarily closed the M-5 Motorway from Multan to Zahir Peer due to dense fog, citing concerns for public safety.
According to Syed Imran Ahmed, Spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Region, the decision to close the motorway has been taken to protect the lives and property of road users. He warned that poor visibility and lane violations during foggy conditions significantly increase the risk of accidents.
The spokesperson advised motorists to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid speeding, emphasizing the need to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. He further urged drivers to use fog lights and avoid unnecessary travel during severe fog conditions.
Syed Imran Ahmed recommended that road users prefer urban travel during daylight hours, noting that the safest time to travel in fog is between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Motorists have also been advised to contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 for guidance and assistance before planning their journey.
The Motorway Police said the motorway will be reopened once visibility improves and conditions are deemed safe for travel.
