Scotland thrash Oman by seven-wicket in T20 World Cup match

Scotland boosted their chances of qualifying for the second round of the T20 Cricket World Cup on Sunday after thrashing Oman by seven wickets in Antigua to move to the top of Group B.

Brandon McMullen's unbeaten 61 off just 31 balls steered Scotland to victory with nearly seven overs to spare as the Scots finished on 153-3 off 13.1 overs to reel in Oman's total of 150-7.

Oman set a target of 151 runs to Scotland after they opted to bat first in match No.20 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda.

Pratik Athavale was the standout batter, scoring 54 off 40 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes.

Meanwhile, Ayaan Khan made not out 41 off 39 balls.

Safyaan Sharif picked 2/44 for Scotland while spinner Brad Wheal was economical with 1/19.

Remember, Oman have lost both of their matches against Namibia and Australia while Scotland's first match against England was abandoned due to rain while they thumped Namibia in the second.

Oman skipper Aqib Ilyas thinks runs on the board is the way to go. "We want to set a decent target and put the opposition under pressure," he said.

They have made two changes with Naseem Khushi and Rafiullah coming in for Kashyap Prajapati and Shoaib Khan.

Meanwhile, Richie Berrington isn't too unhappy with being put into the field. "First game here, short boundary. We will have to assess the wicket and see what works."

Scotland have been forced to make a change, too, with Brad Currie missing out due to a niggle. The experienced Safyaan Sharif comes in to take his place
