Government to present federal budget on June 12 after latest schedule revision
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in the National Assembly on June 12, according to a revised schedule announced by Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad.
In a post on X, Schehzad confirmed that the federal budget would be presented by Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday, June 12, while the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26 would be released a day earlier on June 11.
According to the schedule, Aurangzeb will launch the Economic Survey at 2:20 p.m. at the P-Block of the Pakistan Secretariat in Islamabad. The survey, a key pre-budget document, will provide an overview of the country's economic performance during the outgoing fiscal year, including GDP growth, tax collection, sectoral performance and other major macroeconomic indicators.

Budget sessions of both the National Assembly and Senate have already been summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari ahead of the budget presentation.
The announcement came after the National Economic Council (NEC), the country's highest economic decision-making body, met on Wednesday to finalize development priorities and economic targets for the next fiscal year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who chaired the meeting, said the federal government had consulted the provinces on all major issues and made decisions in the country's best interest.
The NEC approved the national development programme and key economic targets for 2026-27. The meeting reviewed development spending for the outgoing fiscal year and approved annual development plans of all four provinces.
Chief ministers of Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the meeting in person, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz joined through a video link.
The council also reviewed public sector investment plans, development programmes and monitoring reports of major projects.
Separately, Aurangzeb informed the Senate that the Economic Survey would be presented on Thursday, setting the stage for the federal budget and outlining the government's economic performance during the past year.
Meanwhile, a meeting of parliamentary leaders chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq discussed arrangements for the budget session.
According to parliamentary sources, the budget session is expected to continue without weekly holidays, including Saturdays and Sundays, until the finance bill is approved. The government is aiming to secure parliamentary approval for the budget before Ashura, with a target date of June 23 or 24.
Sources said that if the approval process is delayed, the session will continue with no holidays except those observed during Ashura, while supplementary grants will be taken up later.
The federal budget schedule has undergone multiple revisions in recent weeks. It was initially expected to be presented on June 5 before being moved to June 10 and later rescheduled to June 12.
Government sources attribute the delays to ongoing consultations among coalition partners and stakeholders on key budgetary proposals ahead of the final presentation.
