PTI set to nominate Faisal Javed for Senate dy chairman slot today
The ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) is expected to nominate Senator Faisal Javed as its candidate for the slot of Senate deputy chairman today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The development came amid reports that PTI’s staunch allies from Sindh – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) – are also demanding the seat of the Senate deputy chairman.
A government delegation consisting of Sadiq Sanjrani and Defence Minister Pervez Khattak met JUI Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri in Islamabad on Tuesday and offered him to become PTI’s candidate for Senate deputy chairmanship.
The political manoeuvring has picked up pace across the country as the Senate is due to elect its chairman and deputy chairman on Friday (March 12).
Also on Tuesday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had decided in principle to support Pakistan People’s Party’s Yusuf Raza Gilani and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Abdul Ghafoor Haideri for the post of Senate chairman and deputy chairman, respectively.
The decision was taken at a consultative meeting of the PML-N senators in Islamabad which was not attended by Senator Dilawar Khan because his wife was suffering from illness, Senator Nuzhat Apa who was suffering from pollen allergy, Senator Kamran Michael who was busy in inauguration of his hospital and Senator Salman Butt who was coming back from the United States to cast his vote in the Senate elections.
