The Supreme Court (SC) Thursday issued a notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan in the case of former National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
It is to be noted here that the Punjab election commission’s tribunal had ordered re-polling in the National Assembly constituency, NA-122, declaring the election in the constituency null and void in August 2015.
The election commission’s tribunal had also imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million on the former National Assembly speaker who had filed an appeal against the fine.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, however, challenged the decision of the election tribunal regarding re-election in his constituency (NA-122) before the Supreme Court.
In his appeal filed at the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, the former National Assembly speaker had maintained that the election tribunal’s impugned order was against the facts and relevant laws.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, conducted the hearing on Thursday and issued notice to the prime minister in the case.
The court also issued notices to the election commission and National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and also ordered them to pay for the expenses borne during the scrutiny of record.
