'I chose my baby', Nadia Jamil opens up about turning down Veer-Zaara
Pakistani actress Nadia Jamil revealed that she once turned down a major role in the blockbuster Bollywood film Veer-Zaara, directed by legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra.
The drama, which later starred Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, went on to become one of the most iconic cross-border love stories in cinema.
However, for Jamil, the decision to step away from such a huge opportunity was simple, she chose motherhood over fame.
During a recent interview, Nadia shared that she had been approached for a role in the film when discussions with Yash Chopra first began.
At that time, she had just gotten married and her career in Pakistan’s television industry was flourishing.
But by the time the casting process was finalized and filming was set to begin, her life had changed significantly.
The actress had just given birth to her eldest son, Rakay, who was only three months old at the time.
Jamil recalled that although the offer was incredibly exciting, she could not imagine being away from her newborn child, especially because she was breastfeeding.
Despite the enormous opportunity, Nadia said the choice became very clear to her.

She described her love and dedication to her child as stronger than her passion for acting at that moment.
Interestingly, the actress revealed that her family was extremely supportive of her pursuing the project.
Her mother even offered to accompany her to India to help care for the baby so she could work on the film.

Similarly, her in-laws were also encouraging and willing to support her decision if she chose to take the role.
However, Jamil ultimately decided that spending time with her newborn son mattered more than advancing her career internationally.
She also shared details about her interaction with filmmaker Yash Chopra, whom she described as one of the most wonderful people she had met.

According to the actress, Chopra was surprised by her decision and reportedly told her that rejecting such a big opportunity might damage her careerm, yet Nadia remained firm in her choice.
