The federal cabinet rejected the proposal to increase the support price of wheat, 24News HD TV reported on Wednesday.
According to the inside report of the cabinet meeting, federal minister Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad and Commerce Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood opposed raising the support price of wheat.
Sources said that the Ministry of Food and Food Security had recommended an increase of Rs100 per quintal in the support price of wheat.
But, federal cabinet members opposed setting wheat support price at Rs 2,050 and approve it at Rs 1,950 per quintal.
On the other hand, the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) government in Sindh was considering setting the support price of wheat higher than the federal price to ease its farmer.
