Heavy rain, hailstorm and snowfall grind life to a halt

The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad received heavy rain and hailstorms while thundershowers and snowfall hit Murree and its adjoining areas.

According to 24NewsHD TV, snow blanketed the mountains of Naran, Kaghan and adjacent localities. The Kaghan Development Authority said the road leading to Babusir Top was closed due to snowfall. 

 

n Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the authorities issued a high alert. The officials took the machinery to the low-lying areas to drain out the weather, a spokesperson said.

 The roof of Islamabad International Airport began to drip due to rain, exposing the management. Airport staff are busy collecting water in dustbins.

A spokesperson for Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) says power cuts added to public problems. 

Slippery roads caused traffic trouble in Murree and authorities have issued a travel advisory, urging motorists to adopt precautionary measures to avert any untoward incident.

They stressed Motorists should avoid speeding and use fog lights. The Rescue 1122 staff have been put on high alert to deal with any emergency situation immediately.

 

Snow fell in Galiyat, Nathiagali and Ayubia. Reports of landslides were being aired too. A group of tourists stuck on Babusir Top were rescued, KDA said.

The admin has suspended movements of all types to avert any untoward incidents on Babu Sartop Road

Tourists and other motorists will not be allowed to visit Babusir Top. They were asked to go by KKH road instead of Naran road to go to Gilgit. Four to six inches of snowfall was recorded at Buttakundi, Jalkhad and Lulu Sir Lake.
