JUI-F expels Senator Ahmed Khan for voting in favour of 27th Constitutional Amendment

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Monday announced the expulsion of Senator Ahmed Khan from the party, citing violations of party discipline after he voted in favour of the government-backed 27th Constitutional Amendment during the Senate session.

According to an official party statement, Senator Ahmed Khan’s support for the amendment was deemed a “clear breach of party policy and discipline.” The decision to expel him was made following internal consultations led by the party’s top leadership.

The JUI-F, which had strongly opposed the amendment, maintained that all party lawmakers had been instructed to vote against the bill. “No member is above party discipline,” a senior party spokesperson said, emphasizing that adherence to collective decisions is essential to maintaining political unity and credibility.

Senator Ahmed Khan’s unexpected vote in favour of the amendment reportedly gave crucial support to the government during a closely watched session. The move drew sharp criticism from within JUI-F ranks, with several leaders calling it an act of defiance.

Party sources indicated that formal notices were issued to Senator Khan before the expulsion, but his response was found unsatisfactory. The JUI-F leadership reaffirmed its commitment to internal accountability and stated that no deviation from party policy would be tolerated in the future.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment, recently passed in Parliament, has been the center of political debate, with opposition parties divided over its provisions. Senator Ahmed Khan’s expulsion marks the latest episode of political tension surrounding the controversial legislation.
