PDMA Punjab declares end of monsoon spell; no more rain forecast

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has officially declared the end of the tenth and most destructive spell of the monsoon season, bringing some hope for relief and recovery across flood-affected areas of the province, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Wednesday.

According to the PDMA Punjab, no significant rainfall is expected in the coming week, including in the upper catchment areas of major rivers.

However, despite the end of the rainfall, river flows remain dangerously high across Punjab, with several locations still under high or very high flood conditions.

At Ganda Singh Wala, the flow in the Sutlej River is recorded at 230,000 cusecs, while Head Sulemanki is also experiencing a high flood with 137,000 cusecs of water.

In the Chenab River, Head Marala currently reports a flow of 62,000 cusecs, and Khanki Headworks is under a low flood with a flow of 98,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, Trimmu Headworks is experiencing higher pressure, reporting a substantial 250,000 cusecs.

The situation is even more severe at Panjnad, where the river is in an extremely high flood condition with a flow of 475,000 cusecs—the highest among all reported points.

The Ravi River is also flowing at varying intensities across different locations. At Jassar, the flow stands at 26,000 cusecs, and at Shahdara, it is 31,000 cusecs. Balloki Headworks is facing a moderate flood situation with a flow of 80,000 cusecs, while Sidhnai Headworks has reached a high flood level, reporting 121,000 cusecs.

PDMA's latest assessment indicates a noticeable decline in monsoon rainfall intensity, and with no active monsoon system in the upper river regions, further rises in river levels are not anticipated.
