Punjab govt unveils restrictions on Nikah Registrars

In a major development, the Punjab government has introduced restrictions on Nikah Registrars in order to eliminate the trend of underage marriages, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to the new curbs, Nikah Registrar must be qualified and he cannot register a Nikah outside his area.

It will be compulsory for a person seeking to become a Nikah Registrar to appear in the relevant exam and obtain 90 percent marks.

A candidate who cannot be able to use internet or operate mobile phone will not be appointed as a Nikah Registrar.

The Nikah Registrars are bound to forward Nikah documents to the Union Councils within seven days for registration.

If a registrar is facing a case then he will not become a Nikah Registrar.
