Shehbaz Sharif sworn in as 23rd PM 

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the 23rd prime minister, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday. 

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath to Shehbaz Sharif as President Dr Arif Alvi went on leave. 

Pakistan People Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Jamiat Ulema Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz, Ahsan Iqbal, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Rana Sanaullah attended the oath-taking ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Earlier in the day, the National Assembly elected Shehbaz Sharif the new prime minister while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) boycotted the election process and announced tendering resignations en masse.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chaired the House and completed the PM election process. Shehbaz Sharif received 174 votes while his opponent Shah Mehmood Qureshi did not get a single vote. The Cabinet Division notified that Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in.   According to the notification, Shehbaz Sharif became prime minister.
