Pakistan helped avert global crisis, says Ahsan Iqbal

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday said that Pakistan has played a crucial role in preventing a major global crisis, asserting that the country’s efforts helped avert a devastating war with far-reaching consequences.

Addressing a ceremony in Narowal, the minister said that “the eyes of the world are on Pakistan” as it emerges as a key player in promoting peace and stability. He referred to a recent conflict that, according to him, had engulfed the region and threatened the global economy, triggering inflation and increasing poverty worldwide.

Ahsan stated that the situation had reached a point where the flames of war were spreading across the region, with economic repercussions being felt internationally. “Inflation had gripped the world like a fog, and poverty was on the rise. Pakistan, by the grace of Allah Almighty, has been honoured to play its role in stopping this war,” he said.

Highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts, he noted that representatives from the United States and Iran are currently present in Islamabad for peace talks, signalling Pakistan’s growing importance on the global diplomatic stage.

The minister also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, saying their leadership and efforts have brought honour to the country and strengthened its international standing. “Pakistan has made its friends proud through its constructive role,” he added.

In a pointed remark about regional dynamics, Iqbal said that neighbouring countries should acknowledge Pakistan’s efforts rather than express resentment. He claimed that had the conflict continued, millions could have faced hunger, poverty, and unemployment.

“Instead of envying Pakistan, our neighbours should be grateful. Pakistan has not only saved the region but also contributed to preventing wider global destruction,” he said.

The minister concluded by stating that Pakistan is being honoured on the global stage under the leadership of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.
